The Small Stirrup (Colorado Hill Viewpoint)

The “Bonus” of the Color Route: Muralism with a View of the Lake

If the big stirrup It is the natural adventure, The Small Stirrup It's a hidden artistic gem. Known as such because it's located at a lower altitude than its "older brother," this viewpoint sits in the Cerro Coloradooffering a more intimate and close perspective of the city and the lake, from a completely different angle.

📍 The Secret of the Mural Route This site is a must-see to complete the Color Route from Pátzcuaro. The reason? The main building of the viewpoint is a historical canvas. On two of its walls, the renowned painter Roberto Cueva del Río depicted everyday scenes that capture the essence of life on the lake. Take a moment to admire the details of these works:

  1. The Tianguis (The Market): A vibrant representation of traditional commercial exchange.
  2. The Fish Dance: A tribute to the festive traditions of the region.

History and Architecture of the Cárdenas Era (1938) Like other major projects in Pátzcuaro, this lookout point was built during the administration of General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, and inaugurated in 1938. The structure exemplifies the collaboration between art and technology of the time, having been designed and built by architect Antonio Llamosa and engineer Roberto Mejía Ortiz. Its style seeks to harmonize with the landscape, using stone and tile to frame the paintings and the view.

The Alternative View Although it's at a lower elevation, the view is no less impressive. Being on the opposite side (towards the exit to Santa Clara), it offers a unique angle of the rooftops of Pátzcuaro sloping down towards the lake, ideal for those looking for a photograph different from the classic postcard view of Estribo Grande.

Access and Location: It is reached by going up a cobblestone path that starts from Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue, right across the street from the small plaza and monument dedicated to the same general. It is a shorter and more accessible climb.
