Ubicación: Santa Clara del Cobre

Santa Clara del Cobre is the old name of this recently named Magical Town, located half an hour from Pátzcuaro, taking the road to Tacámbaro. The fame of this town is due to the production of copper crafts, from which its old name is derived, by which it is mostly known.
Many years ago, there were large and abundant mines of this metal there, but during the conquest, the former owners of these lands covered them up, hiding them from the Spanish, and they were never found again. Thus, it was natural that the inhabitants of this region were chosen to work with copper, a technique that is pre-Hispanic and is still used today.
Some of the artisanal models that are still being made were designed by Don Vasco himself, however, it is important to note that each piece made of copper is unique. All the work is done by hand and individually hammered to achieve the shape that the craftsman desires.
Every year, in August, the Copper Fair is held, in which all the artisans of the region participate, with pieces made exclusively for the event, and the best works are awarded prizes. The copper museum exhibits samples of this work. In addition, wool textiles are made.
