Discover the artistic richness of Pátzcuaro through its walls. A self-guided tour of 5 masterpieces in the historic center , an artistic viewpoint in the forest , and two monumental gems in the middle of the lake.

Route Points:

  • Public Library: “History of Michoacán” by Juan O’Gorman. (Look for his self-portrait below).

  • Emperor Caltzontzin Theatre: In the auditorium, the diplomacy of Cueva del Río. Tip: Go upstairs to see the murals by Ricardo Bárcenas depicting daily life.

  • Municipal Palace: Contemporary mural by Juan Torres. Headquarters of the former Royal Customs House of Tobacco and crowned by the Centennial Clock (1910).

  • Quinta Eréndira (CREFAL): The Cardenista landscape in the former home of the General.

  • House of the Eleven Courtyards: Homage to the trades by José Luis Soto.

  • 🌲 The Painted Lookout (Estribo Chico): Outdoor art. In the rest pavilion, you'll find festive decorations by Roberto Cueva del Río. (Ideal for a picnic after the uphill hike).

  • ⚓ Monumental Stop: Statue of Morelos in Janitzio (The spiral ascent of Alva de la Canal).

  • 🛶 Explorer Level: Yunuén Island Primary School. River Cave Rural Murals (Local permission required).

Traveler's Tip: Start early at the Library, climb to the Estribo at sunset and leave the islands (Janitzio/Yunuén) for the following morning.
