Urandén or Los Urandenes

On the southern side of Lake Pátzcuaro lies Urandén de Morelos, the largest of the three communities historically known as Los Urandenes, together with Urandén Morales and Carián.

The landscape has changed as the lake level has fallen: Urandén de Morelos retains its island character thanks to the canals that surround it, while other parts of the former island group have become connected to the mainland. Here the horizon is low, green, and crossed by waterways, very different from the elevated profile of Janitzio.

This place has a different kind of magic: it feeds not only from the lake, but from its own crystal clear water springs. This creates a unique ecosystem of tranquil canals reminiscent of floating gardens, ideal for quiet exploration.

Due to its geography and tradition, many world and Olympic medalists in canoeing have come from here representig Mexico around the world. You'll see children and young people training in their kayaks at dawn, keeping alive a tradition of strength and discipline that runs in their blood.

• Crafts and Networks: As you walk along its paths, you can see fishermen weaving their butterfly nets and find local crafts in wood and textiles.
