Its architectural beauty and art collection make it a must-visit.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"6\"><b>History: Hospital and Refuge (1533) \ud83d\udcdc<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"7\" class=\"translation-block\">Founded by the Franciscan <b>Fray Juan de San Miguel<\/b> in <b>1533<\/b>, this site was born with a noble mission: to serve as a hospital, inn and meeting place for the indigenous people.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\"><b>El Concepto:<\/b> Siguiendo la visi\u00f3n humanista de la \u00e9poca, no era solo para curar cuerpos, sino para integrar a la comunidad. Fue el coraz\u00f3n de la vida social de los barrios fundacionales.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\"><b>The Evolution:<\/b> After centuries of history and deterioration, and after having been the headquarters of the Maque artisans' cooperative in the 1930s, the building was rescued. After a major restoration (1999-2001), today it shines as one of the best regional museums in Mexico.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b>What to see in the Museum? \ud83c\udffa<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"10\">The museum is divided into rooms that explore the Michoacan identity with exquisite curation:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"11\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Room \u201cEl Maque in Michoac\u00e1n\u201d:<\/b> The star of the place. Here you will understand why Uruapan is the capital of this ancient technique. The exhibition shows the aesthetic differences between the three major production centers: <b>Uruapan<\/b> (embedded), <a href=\"https:\/\/villapatzcuaro.com\/visitpatzcuaro\/en\/loc\/patzcuaro\/\" target=\"_self\"><b>P\u00e1tzcuaro<\/b><\/a> (outlined in gold) and <a href=\"https:\/\/villapatzcuaro.com\/visitpatzcuaro\/en\/loc\/quiroga\/\" target=\"_self\"><b>Quiroga<\/b><\/a>(painted), each with its unique seal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>\u201cThe Four Towns\u201d Room:<\/b> An ethnographic journey through the indigenous cultures of Michoac\u00e1n (Pur\u00e9pecha, Nahua, Mazahua and Otom\u00ed). You will see pieces of their daily, religious and festive life.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>The Chapel and the 16th Century Mural:<\/b> At the back of the patio is the old hospital chapel. Enter and look at its walls: it preserves an <b>original mural from the 16th century<\/b>, one of the few colonial mural paintings from that time that survive on the continent.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b>Architecture: An Oasis of Peace \ud83c\udf3f<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"13\" class=\"translation-block\">The building itself is a work of art. Its <b>Plateresque<\/b> style fa\u00e7ade (carved in stone with vegetal and Franciscan motifs) is magnificent.
