Affectionately known by locals as \"El Hospitalito,\" it holds the title of being the oldest church in P\u00e1tzcuaro, having opened its doors around 1545.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"7\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Cradle of Evangelization<\/b> Its construction marked the arrival of the Franciscan order, the first to set foot in the lake region. Originally, it was part of a hospital complex (now gone) where not only was the body healed, but Christian doctrine was taught, following the model of the hospital-towns of <b><a class=\"ng-star-inserted\" href=\"https:\/\/villapatzcuaro.com\/visitpatzcuaro\/en\/don-vasco-de-quiroga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hveid=\"0\" data-ved=\"0CAAQ_4QMahgKEwifypz6up-RAxUAAAAAHQAAAAAQ3wU\">Don Vasco de Quiroga<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"8\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Architecture and Treasures<\/b> Despite its modest size, its artistic value is immense:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"9\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>The Portal:<\/b> It is a pure example of the <b>16th-century Renaissance<\/b> style.
