It is a vibrant space where viceregal history, contemporary art, and the decision-making processes that shape the city's future coexist.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\ud83c\udfdb\ufe0f History: The Royal Tobacco Customs House<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"6\">To understand this building, we have to look back, to the year <b>1790<\/b>. Unlike the family mansions on the square, this building was born with an administrative purpose: it was built to house the <b>The Royal Tobacco Customs House<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"7\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7,0,0\"><b>The Monopoly:<\/b> In the 18th century, tobacco was strictly controlled by the Spanish Crown (the \u201cEstanco\u201d). This place served as collection offices and the residence of the \u201cFactor\u201d, the royal official in charge of this powerful monopoly.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\ud83e\uddf1 Architecture: Unique Details<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"9\">Its past as a viceregal public building gave it unique architectural characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-path-to-node=\"10\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0\"><b>The Octagonal Access:<\/b> The main entrance is not in the center of the facade, but rather set into the corner (chamfered corner). It is a <b>Porfirian<\/b> clock made in France, which was solemnly inaugurated on <b>September 16, 1910<\/b> to commemorate the Centennial of Mexico's Independence.
