The identity of Villa P\u00e1tzcuaro looks back to an ancient representation of Michhuac\u00e1n \u2014Mechuacan\u2014, a Nahuatl name associated with fish and with the communities established around the lakes of central Michoac\u00e1n. Michhuac\u00e1n \u2014Mechuacan\u2014<\/strong>, nombre n\u00e1huatl relacionado con el pescado y con los pueblos establecidos alrededor de los lagos del centro de Michoac\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n

In that pictographic writing, a fish and a hill represented this territory. The fish referred to Mechuacan; the hill, to the territory or realm. un pez y un cerro<\/strong> representaban este territorio. El pez remit\u00eda a Mechuacan; el cerro, al territorio o se\u00f1or\u00edo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our symbol draws from that root and brings it into a contemporary expression. It is not intended as a reproduction of a historical glyph, nor as decoration borrowed from the past. It is a way of acknowledging the place to which we belong: its landscape, its memory, and this region\u2019s deep relationship with water and nature.<\/p>\n\n\n
